On Tuesday morning, September 8th, 2020, a severe wind storm that unusually came from the east, caused severe damage to trees, light poles, bushes and other features of the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The neighborhood surrounding the cemetery was without power for several days.

The University of Utah measured wind gusts as high as 112 mph. The National Weather Service officially reported a wind gust of 99 mph in Farmington as the storm wreaked destruction along the Wasatch front from Salt Lake County up to Cache County.
